What happens when we lean into radical love and the sacredness of community?

As the year unfolds, we’re reminded by natural and human caused disasters of how fragile and precious life is. These times force us to sit with the truth of our shared groundlessness. Greed and disregard for human life and our earth home have risen to new levels, harming our most vulnerable siblings. Racism, transphobia, misogyny, hatred, division, and fear continue to create fractures in the fabric of our human family. I know we are all feeling it, regardless of who you voted for.

You may be wondering:

Why is a yoga teacher writing about social justice, the environment, and politics? Isn’t yoga about stretching, breathing, and feeling good?

This question reflects a disconnection that permeates our wounded culture—a disconnection heavily shaped by white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and colonial values. These forces have severed us from our Souls, prioritizing material pursuits over authentic connection. As a result, even when we approach the spiritual practice of yoga, we often reduce it to a workout, missing its deeper transformative potential.

I hold deep compassion for all of us. This disconnection—and the healing we’ve been cut off from—has been perpetuated intentionally to keep us afraid, judgmental, and trapped in cycles of trauma.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Spiritual practice offers us an anchor—a quiet, steady truth. Our practices call us to live authentically, to create beloved communities rooted in love and resourcefulness, and to walk together toward liberation.

Yoga, at its essence, has always been a practice of social justice.

The yamas (restraints) and niyamas (wise ways and actions) remind us how we can embody both healers and warriors on the never-ending path of transformation. Together, we can weave a new story—one that honors humanity, justice, and the possibility of true connection.

As I reimagine what is possible when we lean into radical self-love, community, and nonviolence, I know changes are required. I am ready to step forward into my growth, walking in reciprocity with the earth and her children. I am prepared to lend my voice and energy to the collective with more intention and depth than ever before. I am committed to resting and listening to the wisdom of my body.

We are living in extraordinary times, sacred beings, and now, more than ever, we must connect to our collective power in ways we have yet to imagine.

One concrete action I am committing to is using social media less, and looking for new ways to communicate. I have deep concerns about the power held by those who control our digital communications. In defiance of Meta and their flagrant disregard for the safety of the LGBTQIA+ community and the principles of truth, I am choosing to step away from their platforms. Truth (Satya) is a core tenet of yoga, and as a devotee of love and truth, I am reclaiming my power through the Lights Out Meta boycott, January 19-26. I invite you to reflect on what you are consuming, engaging with, and how it aligns with your core values.

I also feel an urgent need to reclaim my creativity. Writing has always been one of my most cherished and honed forms of expression, but I’ve noticed  social media has been draining my imagination. It’s becoming part of a system that disconnects me from my body and the energy I need to contribute meaningfully to a collective movement—one that envisions a more loving and liberated world.
I am committing to more regular newsletters, blogposts, community gatherings with the intention of finding more sovereign ways to create, collaborate, and connect. I'm not saying anything crazy like I'll send out a monthly newsletter, and you still may be invited to an event via socials, or see me using the platforms as a way to connect to movements. I acknowledge social media is a way that people are organizing and sharing in community, so as long as we are able to do that, I will find ways to stay aligned to my values and be engaged.

Still, if you want to stay looped in to what is birthed by Sacred Being Yoga, please stay tuned to the newsletter, email me, text or call.

Thank you for holding me lovingly accountable, and thank you for being a part of this beloved community.
